Gendovich’s Skyscraper
The tallest building in Sofia at the beginning of the 20th century appeared in 1914 on the idea of Gendovich – an associate of Vasil Levski, who was awarded with the title “Baron” by the Russian Tsar Alexander II because of his participation in the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation. The building, designed by arch. Nikola Lazarov, is based on the Viennese pattern and is quite lively – terraces, bay windows through the floors, a facade rich in ornaments. Until 1966, the building housed the “Bambuka” restaurant – the Sofia elite gathered at its bamboo tables.
It is located on 7 Diakon Ignatiy Str. in Sofia.
